The second edition of "FULL MOON” Horror & Fantasy Film Festival, the first and only Romanian festival focusing exclusively on genre cinema, will take place between August 14 and 18 in Biertan, Sibiu county.

The special guest of the festival is the writer/director KRISTINA BUOŽYTĖ, a Film Directing graduate from The Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Her debut feature film, The Collectress (2008), won many national awards and was selected in an impressive number of festivals. Kristina's second film, Vanishing Waves (screening in the "Tenebre" section of "Full Moon"), is the winner of the 2012 Melies awarded by the European Federation of Fantastic Film Festivals (EFFFF) to the best European genre film. At the same time, Kristina will be a member of the feature competition jury which will grant the 2013 "Full Moon" trophy. The other two jury members are CHRISTIAN HALLMAN, Swidish director/producer, EFFFF coordinator and programmer for Lund International Fantastic Film Festival and TOMAŽ HORVAT, artistic director and founder of Grossmann Film Festival, the only genre event in the region of former Yugoslavia.

This year, the festival decided to tackle literature, as well. The festival team members are the first book donors, thus contributing to the future FANTASTIC LIBRARY OF BIERTAN. Those who want to be a part of this project are invited to come to Biertan with a genre book (SciFi, horror, crime, fantastic) in exchange for a special "Full Moon" cocktail.

Beside the feature and short competitions and the „Tenebre”, „Full Moon Classic”, „Grindhouse” and „American Masters” parallel sections, "Full Moon" organized a series of special events and surprises…

EINUIEA LIVE – "THE KURUC ATONEMENT": World music band EINUIEA (Silviu Fologea – guitar, Elena Șulea – violin and vocal, Călin Torsan – pipes & Juan Carlos Negretti – percussion) was born 10 years ago in Bucharest. As a commemoration of the 1704 Kuruc invasion which left the city of Biertan devastated, the EINUIEA concert will take place Saturday, August 17, from 5 PM, in the fortified church.

EDUCATIFF FANTASTIC: The project provides the children of Biertan with a unique opportunity to watch feature films and to participate in film-making workshops. FILM has the gift of making children hungry for knowledge and of nurturing the spirit and the imagination. Every child deserves a cinematic experience! EducaTIFF takes place between 15 and 17 of August, in the local school.

„BY VASILE ȘUȘCA” – FOLK MASKS EXHIBITION: Vasile Șușca's masks are hilarious, sad, or grotesque, depending on the master’s decision. Far from being simple accessories the folk masks made by Vasile Șușca represent a fantastic old world dominated by spirits and traditions from Maramures. Exhibition open throughout the festival at „The Gallery”.

CRISPUS: THE ART OF FIRE: Crispus was formed in the beginning of 2003 in Sibiu. With more than 10 years experience in street performances, Crispus has impressed audiences since their first shows – today, the most successful domestic group of fire performers has in its portfolio hundreds of shows that gathered thousands of people both nationally and abroad. Crispus: The Art of Fire takes place on Friday, August 16, at 9 PM, in the Central Square.

AFTER MIDNIGHT: Starting with 12:30 PM, „La Tarus” becomes the host of the „Full Moon” Parties. Thursday come CAMPSAUVAGE, a duo of artists from Sibiu, launched in 2010 and composed by the French Coralie de Gonzaga (formal member of the French Cricket Club DJs, resident DJ Shamrock, Sapa, Futuregarden or Lutz club) and Romanian aBigQuestionMark. Friday is for the enigmatic SINISTER EXAGGERATORS' HAUNTED MACHINES, born out of nowhere in 2006 and keen on delivering a well-tensioned set of rhythms essential for the haunting dances. Last but definitely not least, the DJ party nights come to o close on Saturday with CANDIE HANK, a specialist of electronic music from raw acid drum 'n' bass to soundtrack oriented, cartoon rap, sound art and futuristic 8bit cumbia swing, involved in about 80 releases and countless remixes besides music for film, videogames, theater, audioplays and sound installations.

The first edition of "FULL MOON” took place between 16 and 19 of August 2012 and gathered over 3000 viewers. This year, our festival remains completely independent and self-financed. In order to accomplish everything it set out to do and in order to have an Europa-worthy edition, the team decided to launch a 100% Romanian crowd-funding with a target of 20.000 lei. This is just a fraction of the budget, but it's vital for turning "FULL MOON" into the ultimate fantastic experience.

Invitata specială a festivalului este scenarista și regizoarea KRISTINA BUOŽYTĖ, absolventă a departamentului Regie a Academiei Lituaniene de Muzică și Teatru. Debutul ei, The Collectress (2008), a câștigat numeroase premii naționale și a participat la un număr impresionant de festivaluri. Cel de-al doilea film al regizoarei, Aurora/Vanishing Waves (care va fi prezentat în exclusivitate în România la Biertan), este câștigătorul premiului Melies d'Or 2012, acordat anual de Federația Europeană a Festivalurilor de Film Fantastic (EFFFF) celui mai bun lungmetraj de gen realizat în Europa. Totodată, Kristina va fi și membră a juriului secțiunii de lungmetraj, care va acorda trofeul „Lună Plină” 2013. Ceilalți doi jurați ai ediției a 2-a sunt CHRISTIAN HALLMAN, regizor și producător suedez, coordonator al EFFFF și selecționer al Festivalului Internațional de Film Fantastic de la Lund și TOMAŽ HORVAT, director artistic și fondator al Festivalului de Film Grossmann, unicul eveniment cinematografic din zona fostei Yugoslavii specializat în cinema-ul de gen.

În acest an, festivalul a decis să se extindă și în spațiul literar. Membrii echipei sunt primii donatori de cărți pentru ceea ce va deveni, foarte curând, BIBLIOTECA FANTASTICĂ DE LA BIERTAN. Cei care doresc să contribuie la acest proiect sunt invitați la festival cu câte un volum de proză de gen (SF, horror, policier, fantastic), pentru care vor primi un cocktail special „Lună Plină”.

În afara competițiilor de lung și scurtmetraj și a secțiunilor paralele „Tenebre”, „Full Moon Classic”, „Grindhouse” și „American Masters” deja anunțate, festivalul „Lună Plină” a pregătit o serie de evenimente speciale și surprize…

EINUIEA LIVE – "THE KURUC ATONEMENT": Grupul bucureștean de world-music EINUIEA (Silviu Fologea – chitară, Elena Șulea – vioară, voce, Călin Torsan – fluiere & Juan Carlos Negretti – percuție) a luat naștere acum 10 ani. În amintirea invaziei curuților care, în 1704, au devastat cetatea Biertanului în căutare de comori, concertul extraordinar al cvartetului EINUIEA are loc sâmbătă, 17 august, de la ora 17:00, la biserica fortificată.

EDUCATIFF FANTASTIC: Proiectul EducaTIFF le oferă copiilor din Biertan o ocazie unică de a viziona filme de cinema și de a participa la ateliere de realizare ale propriilor filmulețe. Filmul fantastic are darul de a trezi copiilor dorința de cunoaștere și de a le hrăni spiritul și imaginația. Proiectul EducaTIFF se desfășoară între 15 și 17 august la școala din Biertan.

„BY VASILE ȘUȘCA” – FOLK MASKS EXHIBITION: Măștile lui Vasile Șușca sunt hilare, triste sau grotești, după cum decide meșterul. Departe de a fi niște simple accesorii, măștile populare realizate de Vasile Șușca reprezintă o lume fantastică străveche, de sorginte maramureșeană, dominată de spirite și tradiții. Expoziția va fi deschisă zilnic la „Galerie” (un nou spațiu „Lună Plină”, renovat de echipa festivalului).

CRISPUS: THE ART OF FIRE: Trupa Crispus s-a format in 2003, la Sibiu. Cu o experienţă de peste 10 ani în spectacole de stradă, trupa a impresionat încă de la primele apariţii – astăzi, cea mai titrată trupă autohtonă de show cu foc are în portofoliu sute de spectacole care au adunat mii de de oameni în ţară şi străinătate. Crispus: The Art of Fire are loc vineri, 16 august, la ora 21:00, în Piața Centrală.

AFTER MIDNIGHT: De la ora 00:00, terasa „La Țăruș” e gazda petrecerilor „Lună Plină”. Joi vin CAMPSAUVAGE, un duo de artiști din Sibiu, lansat în 2010, compus din franțuzoaica Coralie de Gonzaga (membră a Cricket Club DJ, DJ rezident Shamrock, Sapa, Futuregarden sau Lutz club) și românul aBigQuestionMark. Vineri este rândul enigmaticilor SINISTER EXAGGERATORS' HAUNTED MACHINES, apăruți de niciunde în anul 2006, și dornici să livreze un set bine tensionat de ritmuri pentru mai mult decît necesarele dansuri hauntologice. În fine, sâmbătă, seria party-uri cu DJ e încheiată de CANDIE HANK, specialist în muzici electronice de la raw acid drum 'n' bass la soundtrack-uri, cartoon rap, sound art și futuristic 8bit cumbia swing care, pe lângă muzică de film, jocuri video, teatru, piese audio și instalații de sunet, a fost implicat în peste 80 de release-uri și nenumărate remixuri.

Suma reprezintă doar o fracțiune din buget, dar este vitală pentru ca „LUNĂ PLINĂ” să fie cu adevărat experiența ultimă în materie de festival fantastic.

Full Moon Festival: Special screenings in the “Classic” and…

Beside the feature and short competitions and the „Tenebre” section, "Full Moon" festival returns with the „Full Moon Classic” program, focused on digitally restored screenings of various landmarks of the fantastic cinema. This year's classics area:

E.T. – Steven Spielberg's most beloved film turned 30 last year. "Full Moon" Festival is honored to show it, for the first time ever on a Romanian big screen (!) in the original version, digitally restored in 2012.

Fantomas – One of the most underestimated filmmakers of all time, Louis Feuillade, is the author of one of the most influential fantastic films in history. 100th anniversary screening accompanied live by an original and completely new soundtrack courtesy of Romanian quartet EINUIEA.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show – Brad, Janet, Riff-Raff and Frank-N-Furter return to Transylvania for the now traditional midnight screening of the cult musical directed by Jim Sharman in 1975. Cross-dressers are welcomed; rice is on the house. Let's do the time warp again…

For the most audacious viewers, "Full Moon" Festival launches the "Grindhouse” section, which this year consists of a 3-film marathon aptly titled "Zombies' Night Out”:

The Return of the Living Dead – One of the classics of the 80s, perfect to be (re)enjoyed while thinking about the good ol' video days. The late Dan O'Bannon, co-writer of Dark Star and Alien, manages to lampoon and pay tribute to the genre at the same time. Brains, more brains!

Shaun of the Dead – Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost aka panic on the streets of London… The first part of the "Cornetto trilogy" (followed by Hot Fuzz and The World's End) is an irreverent, intelligent and bloody comedy – in other words, an instant classic. So, who died and made you fucking king of the zombies?!

Cockneys vs Zombies – Toronto and San Sebastian Audience Awards for this mash-up which looks as if Guy Ritchie directed The Walking Dead. Veteran film fans will recognize Honor Blackman in a supporting role. In other words, zombies galore!

In addition, starting with the 2013, "Full Moon" and the American Cultural Institute are organizing the "American Masters” program. The star of the first edition is the veteran director Brian De Palma, present in Biertan via two of his classics, The Fury (1978) and Blow Out (1981) – both in digitally restored copies – and, as a Romanian preview, his most recent opus, Passion, distributed in Romania by Independența Film.

Festivalul “Lună Plină”: Proiecții speciale în secțiunile “Classic” și…

Cea de-a 2-a ediție a Festivalului de Film Horror & Fantastic „LUNĂ PLINĂ”, primul și unicul festival din România dedicat exclusiv cinema-ului de gen, va avea loc în perioada 14-18 august 2013, la Biertan, în județul Sibiu.

În afara competițiilor de lung și scurtmetraj și a secțiunii paralele „Tenebre”, deja anunțate, festivalul „Lună Plină” prezintă din nou programul „Full Moon Classic”, axat pe proiecții în versiuni restaurate digital ale unor titluri de referință din istoria cinema-ului fantastic. Iată cele trei clasice de anul acesta:

E.T. – Cel mai iubit film al lui Steven Spielberg a împlinit anul trecut 30 de ani. Festivalul „Lună Plină” are onoarea de a-l prezenta pentru prima oară pe un ecran din România (!), în versiunea originală, restaurată digital în 2012.

In addition to the already mentioned El cuerpo (Goya 2013 nominee), We Are What We Are and V/H/S/ 2 (Sundance 2013 official selection), this section puts forward five other films:

Vanishing Waves – uncountable festival selections and laurels for this impossible/cerebral love story which is the recipient of the 2012 "Melies d'Or" for the Best European Fantastic Feature; the Biertan screening will be attended by the director of the film, Kristina Buozyte.

Stitches – a clown comes back from the death and starts offing teenagers; this film by Irish director Conor McMahon (winner of the "Best Death" award at Frightfest 2012) manages to make you laugh your heart out and get really scared, both in the same frame

The Bay – the found footage genre endures a welcomed mutation and turns into a sort of ecological doc-horror; director Barry Levinson (Oscar for Rain Man) bloodily (but in cold blood) proves that talent has nothing to do with genre. Toronto Audience award – Midnight Madness.

The Lords of Salem – gothic, '70s like, bloody and respectful, a retro-stylized horror which Rob Zombie always wanted to see and make; a main part for his wife, Sheri Moon Zombie, special appearances by Patricia Quinn, Dee Wallace and Meg Foster, and a (literally) killer soundtrack.

Grabbers – the inhabitants of an Irish costal village block themselves in the pub and drink their way through an invasion of creatures with tentacles; director Jon Wright decided that fright and laughter go well together. Audience awards in Neuchatel an Strasbourg 2012.

Secțiunea prezintă un best of 2012-2013 în materie de producții lansate în cadrul celor mai importante festivaluri fantastice ale lumii și difuzate în exclusivitate în România. Pe lângă deja amintitele El cuerpo (nominalizat la Goya 2013), We Are What We Are și V/H/S/ 2 (lansate la Sundance 2013), secțiunea vă propune alte cinci titluri de referință ale genului:

Grabbers / Lighioane – localnicii dintr-un sat irlandez de coastă se baricadează cu cățel, cu purcel (plus polițiștii de serviciu) în crâșmă și se îmbată conștiincios așteptând niscai dihănii cu tentacule; regizorul Jon Wright a hotărât că frisoanele și hohotele stau la aceeași masă. Premiul publicului la Neuchatel și Strasbourg 2012.

Ten short films compete for the „Full Moon” Trophy

Besides the competitive feature section focused exclusively on first and second directorial efforts we announced last week, starting this year, the festival puts forward a competition of fantastic shorts made in the last two years and never before seen in Romania.

Zece scurtmetraje selecționate în competiția festivalului „Lună Plină”

Pe lângă secțiunea competitivă de lungmetraj, destinată în exclusivitate regizorilor aflați la primul sau al doilea film și anunțată săptămâna trecută, începând din acest an, festivalul propune și o competiție de scurtmetraje fantastice, realizate în ultimii doi ani și difuzate în premieră în România.

În afara competiției, festivalul LUNĂ PLINĂ a ales să salute în 2013 două țări ale căror cinematografii fantastice sunt mai relevante pe an ce trece, anume Spania și Belgia – două țări care, deloc întâmplător, găzduiesc cele mai longevive festivaluri de gen din lume (Sitges – 46 de ediții și Bruxelles – 32 de ediții).

Five debut feature films in the „FULL MOON” competition

Starting this year, the festival has a competitive feature section focused exclusively on first and second directorial efforts. The seven films selected by the artistic director Andrei Crețulescu are Romanian premieres and come from countries such as Great Britain, Ireland, Mexico, Germany, Israel and the United States.

Berberian Sound Studio – the second feature by British director Peter Strickland (2009 Silver Bear with Katalin Varga) continues the filmmaker's obsession with sounds and sound design. Thus, Toby Jones is a sound designer hired by an Italian studio to create the sound mix for a pure-blood giallo… The film premiered in the official Locarno competition and was selected at Sitges, Edinburgh and Buenos Aires.

Cannon Fodder – the first feature film buy director Eitan Gafny as already received accolades in many American genre festivals and is the recipient of the „Best Independent Feature" award Las Vegas 2013. The Middle East conflict gets new absurd-macabre and often absurd connotations. Ladies and gentlemen, the first ever Israeli zombie movie!

Citadel – the debut film by Irish Ciaran Foy is a grotesque urban thriller in which an agoraphobic father tries to save his little girl from the clutches of a group of savage children from the projects. The film is one of the 2012 Melies d'Argent winners for the best European fantastic film of the year.

Come Out and Play – the Mexican adventure of an American couple turns into a nightmare when they reach an island from where the adults have mysteriously disappeared. Makinov – a Byelorussian Banksy – makes his fiction debut with a similarly bloody but a lot more nihilistic remake of the Spanish classic Who Can Kill a Child?(1976), warmly received in Toronto, Austin și Gerardmer.

Forgotten – the first film by German director Alex Schmidt had its world premiere in Venice 2012. Hanna and Clarissa are former best friends. When they go back on the island where they used to spend their childhood holidays, the ghosts of the past catch up with them. A revenge movie with a 100% Teutonic twist.

The Rambler – an almost unbearable experiment which looks as if Quentin Dupieux wanted to bring homage to David Lynch. But director Calvin Reeder, whose first film was the highly controversial The Oregonian, has an ace up his sleeve: Dermot Mulroney, perhaps one of the most underestimated actors of the past decades. The Rambler had its world premiere at a Sundance 2013.

Safety Not Guaranteed – a double "Best Screenplay" winner at Sundance & Independent Spirit, the debut feature film by American Colin Trevorrow manages to bring a fresh look to a 20 year old topic – time travel. Thanks to the success of this film, Steven Spielberg gave Trevorrow the dream job of a generation: to direct Jurassic Park 4.
